VW Turbos suck. It’s like they tried to find the tightest spot in the engine bay for them.....beer is a required automotive fluid for that job.

I have a ‘16 GTI but I’m still sort of new to the world of VW... what’s with the outlet on these turbos? I know on my EA888 2.0L there is a separate “turbo muffler” after the outlet intended to quiet things down, is this something similar?

When I swapped the turbo in my wife’s TDI, I left the car on stands for 2 weeks. Sure the job only took 15hours...but I had to walk away to prevent myself from just destroying the car.

Im with you, i taked to my buddy, he loves the vw, and he said its 8 hours and not to even try it on the ground...to fucking late...

On the TDI that’s not even possible you have to pull the axel to get the downpipe off and turbo out..then iI still had to cut the factory downpipe in half to get it out with out dropping the entire subframe.(*It might only be my year with the world’s longest dp 2009 tdi ). But the deal quoted me $7,000-$9000 for the job so it was worth it. Also upgraded everything I touched and it still only cost me $2,000. I’ll think of your project as a drink my beer later.

This was relatively easy then, turbo came out the top, new one is in place, just not connected to anything yet...fir another day
